In Santa Barbara, Hannah Cried "I Miss Those Freezing Beaches"...

Hi there!

Okay so it's been a crazy ten days. I've been busy getting ready to leave on Friday and finishing up my Christmas shopping. I'm gonna post a couple gift guides as soon as I get home from work. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to get everyone's guides finished. Mostly because some of the things I bought didn't have appropriate product photos but also because I'm lazy. Sorry. I did get both my sisters and my niece Marley done. Like I said, I'll post those later today. For now, I have a massive outfit update for you.
Sorry, I know that this is a short post but... I just don't really have much to say today. Hopefully my next post will be longer.

(Ps. Anyone else pissed about Ben Whishaw's absolute snub this award season? His acting in 'London Spy' was some of the best I've ever seen. Bull!)

I Heard An Unhappy Ending, It Sort Of Sounds Like You Leaving...

Hey guys,

(Gilmore Girls spoilers below!)

I meant to post this on Monday but... well, I got distracted.
Did everyone watch Gilmore Girls? I binge-watched it one night. I had many emotions. At first, I was actually really pissed off about the final four words. I think I actually yelled "What?!" at my computer. But the more I think about, the more I liked it. I enjoy the symmetry of it and despite all the reviews I've read talking about how awfully they portrayed millenials, I actually really liked it. Because truthfully, I feel like we were all taught that we could be anything we wanted to be, that the world was ours, but when we actually got out into the world we realized that said world doesn't owe us anything. For many of my friends and myself, the future is nothing like we thought it'd be and we all have to now try to figure out what will actually work for us. I think that was the main theme for Rory. She's learning the hard way that we all get thrown curve balls and need to learn how to roll with the punches. I think it's also in a way about trying to combine who we think we are and who we really are, that's why when everyone kept welcoming her back she kept saying "I'm not back!" Because she never pictured herself living in that town forever but in truth, she is that town, it's part of her and that's shaped who she really is. People also keep harping about how terrible Rory is and how out of character her relationship with Logan was but I think everything about that was perfect. Honestly, I think most of us in our 20's do some things that we're not proud of (I know Rory was 32 but she's always been a little behind) because we're all still learning how relationship and sex work. It also wasn't a one way street, Logan was cheating too and I think people conveniently forget about the bridesmaid's incident in season 6. Plus we all know that just like Chris with Lorelei, Rory is Logan's cryptonite. I also liked how in the scene where Rory and Lorelei were going to all those line ups, they kind of showed how Lorelei -by getting things easily- informed Rory's sense of entitlement. I've noticed it before that while I think Lorelei was a great mom, I do think she did Rory a bit of a disservice by giving her everything and being the type of person who gets what she wants all the time.
Anyway, those are just some of my thoughts on the subject of the revival. I will just say however, that my absolute favourite part was the Life and Death Brigade reunion. I've always loved that story and personally, if I had been Rory, I would have said "Whatever, Logan, I'm going home with Finn" and called it a day. Man that guy's a babe! (freaking hilarious too) Plus the nod to Across the Universe was incredible! So magical.
That's really all I have to say for this post. Not really much going on right now. I worked, thought about Gilmore Girls and worked some more. I hope you guys enjoyed the revival and that your week has been going well. I'm still working on a Retail Therapy post... I don't know where my time goes...

Oh The Devil Won't Have Me, I Wonder Who Will, I Wonder Who Will...

Okay, so...

What a year! I know that most of you have probably given up hope on me as it's been nearly a year since my last post. Trust me when I say that it's not been because I haven't wanted to. The truth is that the 'bad transits' I spoke about last year haven't passed. I feel like the past two-ish years have been nothing but one shit-storm after another and as I look around me, it seems that I'm not the only one feeling this. All I hear from everybody is how terrible 2016 has been for them. I'm with them.
There have been very few highlights this year, aside from the birth of our nephew baby Jack, who is almost walking now. Not long after spring break last year, I started feeling really terrible. I just thought that it was all the stress from my brother's situation (who is doing so well now) and my dad's health scare. I thought "Okay, It's been a crazy few months, your body just needs to catch up." However, my ill feeling continued for the next few weeks and I realized that perhaps there was something more at play. There was.
I was diagnosed with a really nasty infection. Said infection put me out for nearly three months which meant that I also had to take leave from my job. It broke my heart but I honestly was just too sick. I spent most of the next few months in bed. It was awful. I'm fine now, but I really had to work at it and have since been trying to focus on taking better care of myself and not putting other's needs before my own. I've also been travelling less. Normally around this time of year I would be going back and forth to New York but this year, I'm only going back for a week at Christmas. On the upside to this however, is now that I'm better, I've gotten a new job. Teaching again is wonderful, I can't believe how much I've missed it. I really have to give thanks to the administrators at my old job who were so amazing about my transition and gave me wonderful references. The plus to switching schools is that I no longer have to commute from Kerrisdale to North Vancouver everyday. I look forward to that.
As I alluded my brother and his kids are doing really well which is a nice change for them. Oscar and Marley are growing up for fast that it's kinda making my head spin. My sisters are both excellent. Aside from another break up for Willa in the fall, she's doing really well at Cambridge. Ruby is kicking High School's (I know!) butt and even has a boyfriend of her own (It's took early! She's still 10 right?). Actually said boyfriend was a bit of a shock to all of us when we first met him. He's a senior, quite a bit older than her and when I first met him I was freaked out. The dude is like 6'3'' and has a man voice. It was really weird to put that next to my fifteen year old sister and think 'couple'. To give my father credit, he only hit the ceiling for two minutes before accepting and moving forward. However, I still don't think he's overjoyed but... what can you do? You can't tell Ruby anything. Plus Jeremy is actually a reeaally sweet guy, extremely polite and seems to think the sun shines out Ruby's butt... I tend to agree so he's alright in my books.
Anyway, those have been the haps around these parts. I hope some of this explains why I haven't been able to blog. Having spent a long time in bed, it seemed a little silly to blog outfit posts when I think I actually got dressed like... ten times in the past six months. Lol. As I'm still just getting back in the swing of life again, I'm making no promises but I will try to blog as much as I can.
To kick things off I'm starting with a simple outfit post of what I wore today. Which included a pretty Orla Kiely blouse from so long ago... I think it might have been one of the first things I ever bought from them. I paired it with my most comfortable J Brand Jeans, Orla Kiely cardigan and Gucci accessories.
I would really like to post a Retail Therapy Session showcasing my latest buys (Months in bed with nothing to do... yeah I shopped) but we'll see. For now, there's this.
I hope everyone else is doing well and hope that 2016 comes to a swift and final end. Talk to you soon.
-Bea

(Ps. Who else is excited about Gilmore Girls? I am so excited that I can barely sit still! I started watching it in it's first season all those many moons ago! I grew up with Rory and Lorelei, I laughed with them (a lot), I cried with them... I can't believe it's back!)

I'm So Impatient When You're Not Mine...

Hey everyone,

Sooo... I meant to post this yesterday, however my plans were derailed when Ben and I got a phone call at 5 am from his mum saying that his sister Jane was in labour. Our new nephew Jack was born at 10:00 that evening. I know, it seems like I would have had time in there to post but honestly, Ben was so excited he could barely sit still for more than two minutes, which put me on edge, even though I'm a bit of an old pro when it comes to people having babies. Jack is a hefty 8lbs 5oz and could not be any cuter. I'm really happy for my sister-in-law who is healthy and happy if not very exhausted.
Anyway, those were the haps around these parts over the weekend. I'm secretly a little glad that he came a bit late as his original due date was March 3rd, which I'm sure some of you know is my brother's birthday. Speaking of the man himself, he and the kids seem to be settling into their new routines, although, I know it's still really hard for them. Kae and I spoke for the better part of an hour on Thursday.
As for me, while, I truck along at my usual speed. I'm already planning out what to pack for Spring break which is only a few days away now. Usually Ben joins me for these Spring excursions but I he's sitting it out this time. I hate going away without him but... well... can't be helped sometimes.
I've got a few outfit updates for you, and I'm hoping to get in a new retail therapy post up either tonight or tomorrow but we're going back to the hospital tonight to see Jane and Jack so I'm not sure I'll have time, besides I'm actually reluctant to do it until Orla Kiely updates their store, as I know that I'll be doing a bit of ordering... it's a sickness, I'm aware.
-Bea

(Ps. Anyone else watching 'The Family'? That kid is f***ing creepy. I don't trust him at all! Also, I watched last week and said to myself 'I know the brother' but couldn't figure out where from and then I realized that he's Matt Saracen from 'Friday Night Lights'. He's a cutie.)

If Someone Could Help Me Now, They'd Help You Too...

Hello my friends...

Okay, so I'm home now. Home in this incredibly rainy city. Thank the Gods that I don't have to take the bus to work because I don't think I'd be feeling nearly as cheery. Out last couple days in New York were spent relaxing, I may have hit up the Cornelia Spa where I was rubbed and polished. The last night my parents took us out to a yummy dinner at Bistro Chat Noir where I had the Chat Noir Burger with truffle fries... delicious.
Last night on our first night back, we went and had a belated Christmas dinner where we were spoiled by my mother-in-law as usual. After this post I'll be giving you a look at what I bought for my mother-in-law and sisters-in-law. I'm hoping that either today or tomorrow I'm gonna do some fashion blogging... shocking, I know. I'll be posting my favourite looks for spring, the things that I'm hoping to find in my closet soon.
For now though, how about a look at what I wore the last couple days and today, my first day back at work.
Hope that you're all well.
-Bea

She Should Dance If She Wants To Dance...

Hello friends...

Okay just a super quick update before Ben and I leave for a evening of spoils and cocktails... lots of cocktails... at a party that some friends are throwing in Brooklyn. Gonna be so much fun I can't wait. Last night Ben and I celebrated with my family when mom and dad took us and Ruby out for the best dinner ever at Serafina Always... YUM! I got the Ravioli Al Tartufo Nero which is basically a black truffle ravioli and is so freakin' yummy... the best thing about being married though is that I got to have some of Ben's lobster ravioli which was also so delicious. If you're ever in the area and looking for a place to have amazing Italian food, Serafina Always is the way to go.
Anyway, I'll be posting again soon, Ben and I don't leave until the 3rd so I might try to get a retail therapy post in before we go. Don't expect anything tomorrow though as I plan on being far too hungover for anything except perhaps take out from Fred's At Barney's... double yum.
Below is a look at what I wore yesterday, last night, today and what I'm currently wearing as Ben and I dash off to our party. Happy new year everyone, I hope you all have a fantastic night!

I wanna make it my business I wanna recognize drunk you, honey I wanna make you my problem...

Hi friends...

I know that it's been an inexcusably long time since I've posted. I really don't even have an excuse to try. I just haven't been into blogging lately. However... I've decided to do a whole revamp here on the site. I know that I usually don't revamp the blog until spring but I dunno... this winter's theme just wasn't working for me. I'm not sure that I love this new one but I'm gonna live with it for a bit and see if I love it more in a couple weeks.
So as I write this I am sitting in my parent's apartment trying desperately to fit all my Christmas gifts and boxing day shopping spoils into my luggage... difficult task. I am also swooning slightly over this new band called 'Catfish and the Bottlemen' (a gift from Willa as their album is not yet released in the US). I'm not sure if it's cause they remind me of the Strokes or if it's cause lead singer Van McCann looks like the love child of Adam Green and Ben Kweller... but I kinda adore them. Particularly Van... I know that makes me a bit of a cradle robber but whatever I think every woman has had at least one cougar moment.
I got some really awesome stuff for Christmas this year, my family really outdid themselves. My dad bought me a new iPad because as much as I scoffed the first time I got one (see here) I have become incredibly attached to the thing and broke it over the fall when I knocked it off the bed in a half-asleep half watching Julian Casablancas being a babe on youtube moment... it happens. My new one is slightly smaller (so it'll fit in my purse better) and the back is gold which I find really quite fancy. Ben bought me a whole bunch of new stuff for our house (most of which I picked out) as well as some very awesome other stuff.
My brother went crazy over the stuff I got him this year which was awesome considering that I usually suck at buying him gifts. It's okay though because it's become kind of a running joke that for the past three years we've bought the same thing for each other every year. I broke the tradition this year and I'm glad because the coat I got him looks amazing on him. I spent waay too much this year, especially since I can no longer shop for my sister Ruby in the kids section. Kate Spade tried to break my credit card.
I'm gonna post what I got everyone later today. I'm actually looking forward to showing you guys because I feel like I really outdid myself this year.
I'm gonna make you all angry tonight by only posting Christmas Day's outfit, yesterdays and today's because other than those, I haven't really been keeping track of what I've been wearing. Sorry...
I hope you're not too cross with me for not being around but I'm gonna try. I also hope you had a really amazing Christmas!
Love
-Bea

Guess Who's Back, Back Again...

Hi all!

I'm sure that I've probably totally dated myself with the title of this post but... I figured since I haven't updated this blog in... almost two whole months... that you'd forgive me. God! I can't believe it's been so long. Is anybody still reading? I hope so as I've still got lots to do here.
I'm sorry that I've been gone so long but things have just been so crazy and stressful and... just crazy. But we're all happy and well here now. I'm currently in New York visiting my family for Thanksgiving which is so awesome. Aside from having a family dinner at home last night, not much has happened yet as I just got in yesterday afternoon but I plan on doing a lot of shopping while I'm here, finishing up my Christmas presents and tonight we're all going out to dinner which will be awesome!
I'm planning to blog all week for sure... as to what will happen when I get home and back to work... well see but for now, I'm back and I hope you'll hang in there with me while I get things together. As a little gift I have two outfit posts for you, todays as well as what I wore on the plane and what I'll be wearing tonight.
I hope you are all well.
